inside
if you are anything
like me
you are lacking
in dental coverage,
searching, ducking under I teeth, slide past a separating crown
walk heavy and listen for that slight hollow sound

once inside
walk on the underside of the enamel
skirting the weak spots
no one wants
to plummet
like ice fishers with laden sleds and buckets of bait

float up to soft palate ridges
wet washboards with no gravel
save for one gastrolith
to keep us submerged
wrap my arms if you get scared

one
or both of us can pull each other down
or up
or through the surface
there’s only through with mirrors
since to be either in
or out
would negate the reverse,
clear
like vampires,
speaking of hollow teeth, smile stuck
the other side of frownland
capped in amalgam, mercury fill
careful to miss, the sound of the drill
